“Old” – wouldn’t you hate to have that title? Somehow we’ve allowed “old” to relegate something to irrelevance and powerlessness – without effect. Sometimes though, we see “old” in a romantic, nostalgic light – but still relegating it to having no impact or meaning for “now.” That’s why it has always bothered me to say, “The Old Testament” – is “old” really what we want to call it? Sometimes I want to call it “The Foundational Testament” or maybe “The First Testament.”
Albert Mohler lamented the lack of “Old” Testament preaching in contemporary Christianity. He goes so far as to suggest that we are robbing people of the fullness of the Gospel by avoiding the “difficulties” of the “Old” Testament. I agree. This series seeks to bring the core concepts of the “Old” Testament back into the forefront of our Christian conversation – to rescue it from obscurity – to help our understanding of Christ become richer, in the full context of God’s whole Word.
